WHY SWEET POTATOES?
I remember my mom making us eat sweet potatoes when we were growing up. She used to bake a whole potato and would serve them with a little bit of butter and cinnamon. When I started eating healthier I realized my mom knew what she was doing when she fed us these because there are so many health benefits of sweet potatoes. However, I wanted to eat sweet potatoes but I didn’t love the mushy texture of just a regular baked sweet potato.
SWEET POTATO FRIES
The remedy for me wanting to eat sweet potatoes all of the time is sweet potato fries. I have learned that foods can be wildly more enjoyable just based on how they are prepared. So instead of baking a whole sweet potato, I make sweet potato fries! The thinner and crispier they are, the better. I like to prep a huge batch of them on the weekends and then use them throughout the week on salads, in veggie bowls, or even just to dip into sauce. I usually use salt and pepper to make them savory, but I occasionally use brown sugar and cinnamon to make them sweet.
MY NEW OBSESSION
If you know me at all, you know I have an obsession with sweet potato fries! One of the most accurate quotes I’ve ever heard anyone say about me was something along the lines of “When I’m down, I ask myself, ‘What would Jordo do?’ and I think to myself, ‘Eat a sweet potato and go on a run.’” IT IS SO TRUE. (I think the only thing I would add is some protein power oats!) If I could eat a sweet potato every day, I would, (and I often do!) I always, always make these easy, baked sweet potato fries!
I don’t have an air fryer, so this method involves baking sweet potato fries in the oven. There are a few tricks you can do to make these just as crispy as an air fryer, too! So follow along and learn how I make my baked sweet potato fries.
The main ingredient here is sweet potatoes. You’ll need some sort of oil (olive, avocado, or another kind will work) and some salt and pepper. These are the very basic ingredients, but you can get creative if there are other spices or flavor combinations you want to try!
THE KEY TO CRISPY SWEET POTATO FRIES
I wash and peel all sweet potatoes. I think I can dry out the potatoes more without the skin, thus making them more crispy. Also, the thinner you are able to cut your potatoes, the better!

Wash & peel all sweet potatoes.
Slice potatoes into thin horizontal slices. (Start on the outside and move towards the middle.)
Stack the slices into two piles (one stack is each half of the potato.)
Slice each pile into thin slices, making them into fry shapes. Cut down any thicker piece into smaller fries, as necessary.
Put all of the sweet potato fries into a large bowl. Add olive oil to the bowl of fries and mix to make sure they are coated well. Add salt and pepper (or whatever other seasoning) to the fries and mix.
Bake at 425 degrees for 30 mins. (Flip over fries after 15 minutes.)
Option: Broil the fries for 5 minutes for extra crispiness. Let the fries cool.
Plate the sweet potatoes fries and serve with dipping sauce!
