Need an easy weeknight dinner? Throw together this cheesy chicken crescent roll casserole, pop it in the oven, and treat your family to some golden brown bubbly goodness.

Cheesy Chicken Crescent Roll Casserole Recipe
Crescent roll dough is one of life's wonders—it's something like a blank canvas. The buttery, flaky pastry is perfectly good on its own, but there are possibilities for combining it with other ingredients and making something truly great.
There's no need to overcomplicate. Take a sturdy baking dish, combine simple ingredients together, and you'll have an easy dinner that's a shoe-in for the next family favorite.
Sound to good to be true? All you need is a great recipe—this crescent roll casserole can certainly qualify.

Cheesy Chicken Crescent Roll Casserole Ingredients
When I say simple, I'm not kidding. There are fewer than 10 ingredients in this recipe, and that's even counting the salt and pepper separately!
There are three simple elements at the core: crescent roll dough, chicken, and cheese. Easy—good for busy nights when you're looking to please the whole family. Here's their favorite new recipe!
Here's the full list of ingredients so you know what to scoop up at the grocery store:
- 8 oz can crescent rolls
- 1 lb chicken breast (cooked and shredded)
- ½ cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
- ½ cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 8 oz neufchatel cheese
- 1 cup nonfat greek yogurt
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp pepper
You'll also want to make sure you've got a 9x13 baking dish and cooking spray (or your favorite greasing option) ready to go.
You might notice that cream of chicken soup is missing from this version. It's popular to add cream-of-everything soups to casserole recipes, but I find that the soup mixture has the potential to make the crescent dough too soggy for my liking. I'm sure there are great versions using that soup that you can try next time, but give this one a go and see how it works for you!
I note that you need a pound of cooked chicken breast. Of course, you can buy raw chicken and cook it for this purpose. However, this is a great way to use leftover chicken—a chicken casserole can really give it another chance to shine and help eliminate food waste!
How to make cheesy chicken crescent roll recipe
The first step of making this casserole: don't make crescent rolls.
It sounds paradoxical, but this crescent roll casserole doesn't actually call for crescent rolls. Rather, you'll use un-rolled crescent dough as the base layer of your dish, creating a flat surface for the rest of your ingredients to build on.
Here's the rundown of instructions for making this recipe:
- Preheat the oven to 365 degrees.
- Grease an 11 x 13 casserole dish with cooking spray.
- Open the can of crescent rolls, unroll, and lay evenly on bottom of the casserole dish, covering completely.
- Put the block of neufchatel cheese in a microwave-safe bowl & microwave for 45 seconds to soften. Add the softened cheese, greek yogurt, and seasonings to a large bowl and mix well.
- Add the cooked, shredded chicken to the mixing bowl of cream cheese. Stir until well mixed and evenly coated.
- Spread the chicken mixture evenly on top of the crescent rolls. Use a spoon to evenly disperse.
- Sprinkle both shredded cheeses evenly on top of the chicken layer.
- Place into preheated oven and bake for 35-40 mins.
- Let cool and enjoy!

Neufchatel cheese or cream cheese?
You can get a good rundown on the differences between neufchatel cheese and cream cheese elsewhere on the internet. I choose neufchatel for recipes like this for a lower fat content, as I try to make the nutrition information line up with my goals for daily values.
If you don't have neufchatel or can't find it, you can certainly substitute cream cheese without a problem!
How to store chicken crescent roll casserole
Casseroles and bakes are great for making large portions at once, but every once in a while you might shock yourself with leftovers (or even plan to have them with meal prep). For this, store in an airtight container, making sure to let cool before storing in the fridge.
This yummy recipe will still be good the next day, and for at least a couple of days after that—I'd say up to 5.

Another 5 star recipe from Jordo’s World! This one was super easy to throw together and made plenty of leftovers for us. I used canned chicken and cream cheese because I couldn’t find the other cheese at my store. Otherwise followed the recipe as is. We will definitely be making it again!

Excellent and easy to throw together during a busy season. My kids loved it (5 & 9). Jordo’s recipes are always their favorites! I served with a side salad.

Hi Jordan! This recipe sounds amazing and I can’t wait to try it. Question, what do you think would happen if I put the crescent roll dough on top of the casserole, then baked?
