Cinnamon roll casserole

Imagine it with me: snow is gently falling, you're wrapped in a warm blanket, hot coffee in hand, and your breakfast is cooking in the oven. You sniff the air and delicious notes of cinnamon, sweet dough, and sugar fill your nose. Your Cinnamon Roll Casserole is baking and you just can't wait to dig in and serve it to your friends and family.

This doesn't have to just be a beautiful daydream—this can be you! Cinnamon rolls are a beloved brunch item and classic holiday breakfast. In Sweden, there is even a national holiday to celebrate them! This cinnamon roll casserole recipe is perfect for the busy holiday season and is super quick, easy, and delicious. In just 35 minutes, this sweet dish could be ready and hot on your breakfast table!

Cinnamon roll casserole ingredients

Here is all you need to be on your way to cinnamon roll casserole heaven:

  • cinnamon rolls
  • egg whites
  • milk
  • vanilla
  • cinnamon
  • maple syrup

Cinnamon roll casserole substitutions

Here are some simple substitutions I thought about while creating this recipe:

  • Cinnamon rolls: I used Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls, but you could use whatever brand or variation you like best.
  • Milk: I had regular milk on hand at home when I made this recipe. You could use whichever milk suits your fancy.
  • Syrup: I used sugar free syrup to counter the sweetness of the cinnamon rolls. Using regular, lite, or pure maple syrup in this recipe would not change things drastically.

How to make cinnamon roll casserole

Here are the steps to follow to have this yumminess in your home:

  • Gather ingredients for this recipe.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Use cooking spray to grease a casserole dish. Set aside.
  • Cut the cinnamon rolls into ¼ size pieces.
  • Line the cinnamon roll pieces on the bottom of the casserole dish.
  • In a separate bowl, combine egg whites, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon together. Whisk well.
  • Pour the mixture over the top of the cinnamon roll pieces in the casserole dish.
  • Drizzle syrup over the top of the casserole.
  • Bake the casserole in the oven for 25 minutes or until light brown and fully cooked through.
  • Take out of the oven and drizzle the icing evenly over the top.
  • Enjoy!

Cinnamon roll french toast casserole

Because of the eggs I added into the casserole, this dish is giving cinnamon roll-french toast. If you are more set on a traditional french toast—you can check out my protein french toast here.

However, if you have a hankering for something extra and a little different, this recipe is perfect for you!

How do I store this recipe?

Store this recipe in an airtight container in your fridge. This recipe is so delicious, I do not anticipate many leftovers. If you do have them, they will be good for up to 5 days.

This is a great recipe to meal prep for quick breakfasts all week. If you do decide to add this cinnamon roll casserole into your rotation, store in 5 different portioned out containers.

How to reheat this recipe

It is optimal to enjoy this recipe right out of the oven. It's so gooey, fresh, and sweet!

However, it does taste delicious and has an amazing texture after reheating in the microwave for just 1 minute! You can always reheat in the oven if you don't have a microwave that is accessible to you.

How do you keep cinnamon rolls soft and moist?

The best way to keep your cinnamon rolls as soft and moist as the first time they come out of the oven is by storing them in an airtight container. The eggs, milk, and maple syrup in this recipe all work to keep your casserole soft and moist.

You can even prep everything the night before and let the casserole sit in the fridge overnight. Then, in the morning, all you have to do is throw it in the oven!

How do you doctor up canned cinnamon rolls?

The best way to level up your cinnamon rolls is to make this recipe! As mentioned before, it is a yummy combo of french toast and cinnamon rolls and it is so easy to make. Your whole family is going to love this recipe.

You could also add some toppings to this casserole as you see fit. Some ideas are fresh fruit, nuts, or dark chocolate chunks. If you're feeling extra adventurous you could also add some additional seasonings like cinnamon, nutmeg, or a dash of ginger.

Went out on a limb and served this to my family Christmas morning, since we are on vacation, and homemade cinnamon rolls was not going to happen. We were SUPER impressed! I'm not a fan of canned cinnamon rolls, but LOVED these. I used whole eggs instead of just whites. I also added a sprinkle of chopped macadamia nuts, because we're in Hawaii, so why not!? So so so good!

Had to control myself from eating the whole thing in one sitting!

Used reduced fat rolls and only 1/4c of syrup and it was still sweet and delicious

Hi! Love all your recipes. What size casserole dish is the best for the cinnamon roll casserole? Also, saw in the comment section you indicated it serves 6 but on the recipe, it states 8. That's for clarifying.

Hi Jill! I use a 9 x 13 dish with medium depth and seems to work really well. I must have made a mistake in another comment—8 is the correct serving size for the nutrition facts in the post. Hope this helps!@
