Easy Protein Pancakes

Don't sleep on these delicious five ingredient protein pancakes! Many recipes out there use different protein powders, but this recipe gets you a protein content of 33 grams with no protein powder at all. The best thing about this recipe is how easy it is. It is no more time consuming than a store-bought pancake mix, but is so much more nutritious and high in protein!

I'm always trying to make more healthy breakfast recipes and this is definitely a winner. There is so much extra protein than what you would find in traditional pancakes.

This high protein pancake recipe has great texture, so much flavor, and is seriously so easy to whip up. Use for meal prep, or a big Saturday morning breakfast. Prepare to use all of your favorite pancake toppings. Try these Easy Protein Pancakes today!

Easy protein pancake ingredients

All you need are these five simple ingredients to make these delicious fluffy protein pancakes:

  • oats
  • low-fat cottage cheese
  • egg whites
  • vanilla extract
  • cinnamon

How to make easy protein pancakes

To make a high-protein stack of pancakes, follow these instructions:

  • Gather all ingredients and add to a blender or food processor.
  • Blend well.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add cooking spray.
  • Make pancakes until you use all of the pancake batter.
  • Let cool and enjoy!

Easy protein pancake substitution ideas

Try these easy substitutions for this fluffy pancakes recipe:

  • Oats: Whatever type of oats you have on hand will be just fine.
  • Cottage Cheese: I use a low-fat version of cottage cheese, but you could use whatever cottage cheese you have or like best.
  • Egg whites: Use whole eggs instead!
  • Toppings: These pancakes are begging to be topped with all your favorite pancake toppings! I love maple syrup, some yogurt, and fresh berries.

How long do easy protein pancakes last in the fridge?

Stored in an airtight container, these pancakes will last for up to 5 days in the fridge. In a freezer safe container, these high-protein pancakes will will last for 3 months.

A word of caution - this recipe is so delicious there may not be many leftovers!

How to meal prep this recipe

To meal prep these delicious pancakes, simply follow the instructions above. You may want to double or triple the recipe depending on the size of your family. Store the leftovers in a fridge in an airtight container.

The next day, take out the desired amount of pancakes. You could heat up on a baking sheet in the oven, in the microwave, or my personal favorite way to warm up pancakes - the toaster!

To store leftovers in the freezer, let cool completely first. Then put the pancakes in a sealed Ziploc freezer bag with all the air removed.

What goes well with protein pancakes

There are so many options when it comes to sides or toppings for these easy protein pancakes. A small glass of milk would be delicious and would also add to the protein content of the meal. Ripe bananas or fresh blueberries on the side sound perfect.

Maple syrup, peanut butter, chocolate chips, or fresh fruit would be delicious on top. A dollop of Greek yogurt on top is one of my favorite pancake toppings.

How to make basic protein pancakes?

Follow the above instructions to make the most delicious protein pancakes out there!

Are protein pancakes really healthy?

Healthy is a subjective term to each person. It really depends on their goals, their body, and their level of movement. However, these protein pancakes are high in protein.

Protein works to keep you fuller for longer, helps repair muscles, and strengthens your immune system to raise your body's defenses against illness and disease.

Can I add protein powder to pancake mix?

You can add protein powder to pancake mix! I use this technique sometimes to add more protein to my meal. However, I wanted to make a recipe that didn't depend on a protein powder to pack the punch.

Not everyone eats, enjoys, or has protein powder on hand. I wanted to make a recipe for those folks who prefer their recipes without protein powder.

How healthy are easy protein pancakes?

There is nothing wrong with eating regular pancakes. However, this recipe does add some nutritional value. Let's take a look at the different ingredients and see how.

The cottage cheese and the egg whites are really what bring the protein to this breakfast. Egg whites are low in calories, fats, carbs, but super high in protein.

Cottage cheese is rich in calcium, which is essential for building strong bones. It also has a lot of potassium, which is fabulous for heart health.

Is this recipe for one serving? If you wanted to make 1 serving, you could divide by 4.

    Help please.
I used the recipe of 2 cups of each oatmeal, cottage cheese and egg whites. I had way more than 5 small pancakes. I had 16 x 2.5 inch rounds. That seems like way more…and definitely not one serving. Delicious…but the serving size and macros seem off. Would love your guidance.

Hi Carole, the number of pancakes per serving will just depend on how big the pancakes are! If you had 16 pancakes, that would mean 4 pancakes were 1 serving as there is 4 servings for the recipe. Hope this helps!
