These healthy double chocolate banana muffins are for all the chocolate lovers out there. Each muffin is soft, fluffy, and incredibly delicious.

Double chocolate banana muffins
These healthy double chocolate banana muffins are soft, fluffy, and incredibly delicious. They're a step up from my original healthy banana chocolate chip muffins, with an extra chocolate twist! These muffins are naturally sweetened with simple and common ingredients found in your pantry. Banana, chocolate chips, and chocolate milk are the stars of the show, and we'll use a little Kodiak Cakes Power Cakes Mix for some extra protein.
Each muffin is about 130 calories, with double chocolate goodness in every bite! You only need 1 bowl, 9 ingredients, and 30 minutes for this quick and easy recipe. You will not regret making a batch of these double chocolate banana muffins today!

What ingredients do I need?
Like most of my recipes, this one uses fewer than 10 ingredients! Here's what you'll need:
- Kodiak Cakes Power Cakes Mix – Kodiak Cakes has so many mixes that can substitute as flour. I love the flavor, the nutritional components, and how easy it is to incorporate the mix into recipes. I use the classic Buttermilk flavor for this recipe, but you could use whatever mix you like the best!
- Bananas - It wouldn't be chocolate chip banana muffins without bananas! Make sure the bananas you use are really ripe! You'll still get all of the awesome nutrition benefits of bananas like potassium, vitamins, and fiber.
- Honey - This recipe uses honey as a way to sweeten the muffins instead of sugar. If you don't have honey, maple syrup would work the same way!
- Vanilla - I'm a firm believer that every baked good needs vanilla. This recipe uses about 1 tablespoon to add the incredible vanilla flavor.
- Chocolate milk - I used chocolate milk to get a little extra chocolate flavor, but any kind of milk you prefer will work for this recipe.
- Cocoa powder - Not only will cocoa powder add the extra chocolate flavor to these muffins, but it also adds several nutritional benefits.
- Greek yogurt - A little bit of greek yogurt will add creaminess and the moist texture you want in every bite of muffin. It's also an ingredient that will add some extra protein!
- 1 egg - Cracked, added, and stirred into the mix.
- Chocolate chips - Let's be real, muffins are better with chocolate chips! I like to use mini chocolate chips so that there are more and chocolate is added into every bite. You can use dark, milk, or whatever kind you like best.
What substitutions can I make?
I haven't tried all of these substitutions, but there are a few you can try!
- Kodiak Cakes Power Cakes Mix – I love Kodiak Cakes Mix and made this recipe using their Buttermilk mix because I always have it on hand. However, you could use their dark chocolate mix for this recipe as well.
- Bananas - These are a key ingredient! I wouldn't skip them.
- Honey - If you don't have honey, maple syrup would work the same way.
- Chocolate milk - I used chocolate milk because I had some in the fridge, but you could use any kind of milk you have and it will work great.
- Cocoa powder - If you're using a buttermilk or flour for the recipe, you'll for sure want to add cocoa powder because it is where the chocolate will come in!
- Chocolate chips - Let's be real, muffins are better with chocolate chips! I like to use mini chocolate chips so that there are more and chocolate is added into every bite. You can use dark, milk, or whatever kind you like best. You can also add more than ½ cup if you'd like.

These were soooo good! I had to make a few adjustments based on what I had on hand— I used 1 cup of Kodiak buttermilk mix and 1 cup Kodiak dark chocolate mix, 1/4 cup of cocoa powder, and I cut the chocolate chips back to 1/4 cup since the dark chocolate Kodiak mix already has chocolate chips in it. They were great. My kiddos loved them too!

These are a big winner for our house! Packed with protein so I don’t feel like satisfying my carb and chocolate craving is a step backward for my macro goals! I used Flourish Pancake Mix vs Kodiak Cakes and it still turned out amazing (with similar macros).

Because of you, I purchased the huge kodiak cake box from Costco and have been making these on repeat. So easy for meal prep too!
