What is buffalo chicken?

Buffalo chicken has nothing to do with actual buffalo, but from the fact that a bar in Buffalo, New York first served this snack. From buffalo chicken dip to sliders, there are so many incredible snacks out there that highlight this delicious flavor. Foods with the buffalo flavor are typically tangy and have varying spice levels from mild to hot.

Buffalo chicken is one of my absolute FAVORITE flavors which is why I have so many buffalo chicken recipes. My healthy buffalo chicken dip, healthy buffalo chicken, buffalo chicken pasta bake, and buffalo chicken sliders are some of the most popular recipes on my website!

What are buffalo chicken rolls?

Okay, back to the recipe here: buffalo chicken rolls. Imagine a warm, crispy crescent roll coming out of the oven. It looks flaky and smells buttery. You're so excited and take a bite, only to find it is overflowing with cheesy buffalo chicken! Your dreams are now complete.

These buffalo chicken rolls are the best appetizer and party food. All you have to do is make my easy buffalo chicken dip (it's only 5 ingredients and nutritious!), wrap it inside a crescent roll, and bake it in the oven.

These buffalo chicken rolls are lightened-up, easy to make, and so delicious.

Each person has their own definition of healthy, and this recipe is healthy for me! Each roll is 145 calories and has a balance of carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats. The recipe uses simple ingredients and is more nutritious for me compared to similar recipes. I love that this tastes so delicious and is something I can easily make right in my own home! What ingredients do I need?

The ingredients for these buffalo chicken rolls are standard for any buffalo chicken dip recipe. Here's what you'll need:

  • shredded chicken – I use a can to keep it easy, but you could totally shred your own chicken to make this.
  • plain greek yogurt – This will help create a creamy texture.
  • ranch seasoning mix – Ranch seasoning can either be bought in a bottle or in individual packets.
  • Frank’s hot sauce – This hot sauce is KEY. It will add some awesome spice and flavor to the recipe!
  • mozzarella cheese – Adding some mozzarella to melt as the dip cooks will create a creamy texture for the dip.
  • crescent rolls - Each crescent roll will be stuffed with the buffalo chicken dip for these rolls! It's the most important ingredient for this recipe.
  • egg - One egg will be beaten to use as a wash to brush over the rolls before baking them in the oven.

What substitutions can I make?

  • chicken – I use canned chicken because it’s it’s easier, quicker, and cheaper. However, if you have some leftover chicken breast you can shred yourself, you can totally use that instead!
  • cheese – Adding more cheese will make this better. I like to add mozzarella, but adding cheddar or another favorite would only help make this cheesier.
  • greek yogurt – To make this dairy free, choose a plant-based yogurt. For an even creamier texture, you can opt for cream cheese or sour cream.
  • Frank’s hot sauce – I do NOT recommend changing this ingredient! Frank’s is so good and and creates awesome flavor.
  • crescent rolls - It's important to have some sort of roll to stuff the buffalo chicken dip into, but you can use whatever kind of roll you like best.
  • egg - The egg wash is not required and you can leave it off.

How long does it take to make this recipe?

This recipe takes about 30 minutes from start to finish. In my original buffalo chicken dip recipe, I use a crock pot for the dip. However, to speed up the process for this recipe, I cook everything in a pot on the stovetop. It'll take about 15 minutes to make the dip and stuff the rolls, plus another 15 to bake while you're cleaning up. EASY.

What is the process to make this recipe?

These buffalo chicken rolls are SO easy to make. Here's what you have to do:

  • Stir occasionally until warm all the way through, about 10 minutes.
  • On a greased baking sheet, open and separate crescent rolls.

ok, this is a FAVE of mine so far. I've made this twice for two different groups of people and it has been a hit! So much flavor in the buffalo chicken and the crescent rolls without adding all the extra calories. SO SO good. Will definitely be making this as my staple appetizer for gatherings. Jordo killed it with this one!
