Honey sriracha chicken

This honey sriracha chicken is spicy, sweet, and absolutely delicious. It's full of flavor, packed with protein, and simply the BEST. This recipe is easy to make because it only requires 5 ingredients and a slow cooker!

This honey sriracha chicken tastes amazing and can be enjoyed so many ways! It's perfect for meal prep on rice, with veggies, as a wrap, on a salad, or in a bowl. Make sure you have these ingredients so you can try this recipe ASAP!

What ingredients do I need for this recipe?

This recipe only requires 5 ingredients. One thing I love about the ingredients in this recipe is that it's combining several typical pantry ingredients to make something new and delicious! Here's what you'll need:

  • Chicken breast - This recipe calls for 2 lbs of chicken breast (or about 3 large ones). I've used raw and frozen chicken for this recipe and both work.
  • Sriracha - This will add some spice to the sauce!
  • Honey - To contrast with the spice, the honey will add some sweetness.
  • Coconut aminos or soy sauce - Either one of these sauces will add a little salty and sweet flavor to the sauce.
  • Garlic powder - Adding a small amount of garlic will make a big difference!

Can I make substitutions for this recipe?

I usually stick to the recipe, but there are some substitutions you can make based on dietary preferences and what you have available in your fridge. I haven't tried any of these substitutions but let me know if you do!

  • Chicken breast - Raw or frozen chicken will work for this recipe. Instead of chicken breast, you can try chicken thighs.
  • Sriracha - The is key to the recipe so I would recommend using this.
  • Honey - Honey is another key ingredient, but if you don't like honey or you're out, you could try a maple syrup.
  • Coconut aminos or soy sauce - Either one of these will work great for the sauce.
  • Garlic powder - You could use fresh garlic if you have that! I usually just use a powder because it's easier .

What equipment do I need for this recipe?

The only equipment you need for this recipe is a slow cooker. All you need to do is dump everything into a slow cooker and let it cook!

  • Mix all sauce ingredients together (coconut aminos, honey, sriracha, garlic powder).
  • Pour the sauce over chicken into the slow cooker.
  • Cook on high 3-4 hours.
  • Remove the chicken from the sauce and shred. Use two forks or a standing mixer with a dough hook to shred the chicken.

Yum! The flavor is complex but the process is simple. Easy to make again since you'll have more of everything you need on hand for the sauce components.

I’m so excited to make this for my next meal prep session. I don’t have a slow cooker- how can I adapt this for oven cooking?

      Hi Catherine,

I think the best way to simulate a slow cooker experience in the oven is to use something like a dutch oven or other big, oven-safe pot at a low temperature. I've replicated oven recipes in the slow cooker and vice versa using this method. How low you go in temperature depends on how much time you have—I use a food thermometer and check every so often.

    Hi Jordan,

I have a question about using frozen chicken—is there a change in time (or should I defrost the chicken before I put it in the slow cooker)?
I am a beginner, so sorry for the probably stupidly obvious question!

    Thx

Hi Amy, no such thing as a stupid question! I'd recommend thawing the chicken before putting into the slow cooker as the cook time will take much longer from frozen and there's a chance the meat will sit in "the danger zone" for too long. BUT, technically you can cook from frozen — there's just a slight risk involved with the meat cooking safety, according to guidelines. Hope that helps!
